Genesis 1:1…”In the beginning God created…”

Mind-blowing, utterly amazing…that God created us! As we read in Genesis 1:26, Father Son and Holy Spirit had a ball creating together! We are part of all that they created.

One of the highlights of being an early child educator is watching children create! If you ask a child to draw a self-portrait, it starts with a circle and ends up with little lines jutting out of the circle. More little circles are drawn on top of the big central circle…the head and some eyes. The drawing isn’t symmetrical and doesn’t look like a self-portrait in any kind of detail, but as a parent or guardian, we take great delight in the little child’s effort to draw their picture of who they are.

We are made in the image of God. Imagine that! The creativity of the Trinity packed into us! As Father, Son and Holy Spirit created the heavens and the earth, land and sea, birds and beast, you and me, they delighted and celebrated the product of their creativity. Over and over again we read that they exclaimed, “It is good!” Let us celebrate the creativity we see in our children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The world so quickly tears down creativity with comparison and competitiveness. Let us take on God’s perspective that the creativity we see in those little ones we love is God-given and worthy of delight and celebration.
